SCOTTISH FAMILY TREES AND SCOTTISH FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH
I am based near Edinburgh (where the ScotlandsPeople Centre is situated) and provide a professional and friendly service. It is worth noting that records for all areas of Scotland can be researched. I am the secretary of the Association of Scottish Genealogists and Researchers in Archives (ASGRA), which guarantees a professional service and adherence to a strict Code of Practice.
I am a West Lothian Family History Society council member, where I am the research co-ordinator and the editor of the Oak Tree, the society journal. I also write articles for this publiciation.
I have compiled the material for classes in "Tracing Your Scottish Family Tree" and have taught beginners at these classes which were held locally.
I am a member of the Scottish Genealogical Society in Edinburgh and, as such, have access to their various resources.
I am the author of a book describing a family who owned coal mines in Ayrshire and Lanarkshire, which is entitled "Coalmasters and their Connections" - based on the Ferguson family. It has been particularly interesting to research this family, as much of the research I have undertaken in the past has been into families whose ancesters were the coal miners, rather than the mine owners themselves. The youngest son of this Ferguson family sailed off to Nova Scotia to start a hugely successful business there, with many offshoots, but the book relates that his success was made possible only with the assistance of his affluent family. As with any family, there are many twists and turns and hidden secrets, as well as details of their many achievements and sometimes failures. Copies of the book can be ordered by contacting me at mhubble@btconnect.com.
I have undertaken a great many commissions to trace Scottish family roots and produce personal family histories for clients at home and abroad. I am proud and delighted that a great number of my clients have stated that they look on their family history pack as a treasured family heirloom which can be passed from generation to generation. Many satisfied clients have given the ultimate complement of returning to have other branches of their family traced.
I am often asked to complete research for clients who have an interest in specific aspects of their Scottish family history and need some professional assistance, such as looking at the records at the National Archives of Scotland. I have assisted with such requests.
It may be that a client has come upon a "brick wall" in his own research and therefore requires additional guidance. This is a common occurrence for many people and it may be that one particular area is hindering process. I will try to assist the search using various sources available.
Using my experience I will research your Scottish family tree to create an interesting and unusual presentation package, or a standard report. Previous clients have commissioned a family history for retirement presents, anniversaries, special birthdays or for their own pleasure and information.
I am a professional Scottish genealogist and specialise in uncovering your Scottish roots and Scottish descendants.
I look forward to creating your very own Scottish family history.
